This was actually my very first ramen experience in Tokyo—something I still remember vividly. I had already tried Tsuta back when they operated in the Philippines, so when I first arrived in Japan, I made it a point to seek out their original branch. Located around the Yoyogi–Shibuya–Sugamo area, the shop carries a noticeably refined atmosphere. The interior leans toward a more upscale feel, with clean lines, warm lighting, and a layout that feels both spacious and carefully curated—very much “Instagrammable,” but without feeling forced. I ordered their signature truffle ramen, and at the time, it was genuinely a standout experience. The broth was smooth and deeply layered, the toppings were thoughtfully prepared, and the noodles had that ideal al dente bite. Whether or not it was partly shaped by it being my first proper ramen in Japan, it left a strong and lasting impression. These days, prices have understandably gone up, which slightly changes the experience. Still, considering the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail, it remains a benchmark for what elevated, modern ramen can be.

The broth is unbelievably clean and complex. Best ramen I've had outside a specialty shop back home.

Worth the queue, though bring patience — it moves slower than the bigger chains.

Delicate and refined. Not what I expected from ramen, in the best way.

I made a reservation before my trip and added Tsuta to my must-try list for my second visit to Tokyo, especially after learning it was the first ramen shop to receive a Michelin star. The experience was very smooth from start to finish. Ordering is done on a screen, and you’re seated almost immediately. The staff were very attentive, and the whole process felt efficient but still welcoming. A fun highlight—the staff member at the entrance noticed my Oasis shirt and told me he was a fan too. He even played a playlist afterward, which honestly won me over right away. I went with one of their most popular specials, and everything was next level. The presentation was premium, the flavors were complex with little surprises in every bite, and the textures were perfectly balanced. From service to taste to presentation, everything felt refined and intentional. I’m genuinely glad I tried it, and I would confidently recommend Tsuta at least once during a visit to Tokyo. the quality you get for the price is prenium.

I did the Behind the Scenes tour before opening hours and it was awesome. I got to deconstruct their ramen: broth, noodles, all of the various elements, and their approach to umami. This ended up with a bowl of their specialty ramen which was, ummmm, excellent. The A5 Tri Tip Wagyu is top shelf. Alex Regionable’s review is spot on accurate and more detailed than mine.
